Danger from laboratory refrigerators
BG Chemie warns against storage of flammable samples
Many laboratories store samples to be cooled that also have flammable properties. Conventional laboratory refrigerators are often used for this purpose, but they can easily become an unpredictable source of danger. Unprotected against external thermal influences, they pose a risk to employees, work materials and the infrastructure in the event of a fire.
Consequently, the BG Chemie (german employers' liability insurance association) points out that standard laboratory refrigerators are not storage facilities for flammable liquids. They are only used to store educts (flammable liquids) in the work process or to carry out test procedures (crystallization of products).
