Maximum safety for battery-powered tools in production

DÜPERTHAL connect monitoring in use at DÜPERTHAL Sicherheitstechnik

Initial situation

Battery-powered tools are also part of everyday work in our own production facility. However, the safe storage of these batteries outside operating hours had long been a challenge – particularly with regard to fire protection, personal safety and compliance with internal and external safety requirements. After work, batteries were often left unattended on workbenches or in open shelving. A potential risk we no longer wanted to take.

Challenge

Defective or damaged lithium-ion batteries can react thermally and, in the worst case, cause a fire. Particularly critical: this hazard usually exists outside working hours – when no one is on site to intervene early. There was no central monitoring or documented tracking of safety-relevant data. In addition, high requirements applied from the insurer and our internal risk management.

Our solution

In order to ensure the safety of our employees, our infrastructure and the products manufactured as effectively as possible, we have implemented five BATTERY station XL with central partition in our production area. The cabinets have been equipped with state-of-the-art sensors and fully integrated into our DÜPERTHAL connect monitoring solution.

Each BATTERY station XL is equipped with:

  • Two temperature sensors for early detection of overheating
  • A smoke detector for immediate fire detection
  • A door sensor (doors must be kept closed)
  • Visual and audible warning signals on the cabinet via the light and siren
  • Remote alerts via e-mail and SMS
  • Full integration into the central monitoring dashboard

The result

Since the introduction of the BATTERY stations and the integration with DÜPERTHAL connect, we have been able to significantly increase our safety level. All safety-critical conditions are monitored around the clock, threshold exceedances are automatically reported and comprehensively documented. In an emergency, the responsible personnel are notified immediately – even outside regular working hours.

Thanks to this solution, we not only protect our employees and our inventory, but also meet the highest requirements for compliance, insurability and data integrity.
