Use-Case Laboratory:
Interface-Connection

Measurable results

A woman in a lab coat and hairnet is using a pipette in a laboratory setting, with glassware and equipment in the background. A scientist in a lab coat and gloves is using a pipette to transfer liquid into a container, with lab equipment visible in the background.
Problem

Some of the software tools used in the laboratory did not interact with each other automatically. In particular, there were gaps in the Lab Execution Systems (LES) used at the time for method execution. Another challenge was that various data from software-supported hardware were not consolidated.

Ziel

Time-saving linking of information on inventory levels, consumption and results of weighing processes within the leading LES „Labitude“ and the warehouse management app DÜPERTHAL connect. Additionally, integration of the necessary hardware via interfaces.

Lösung

DC inventory management | Package Teams and LES Labitude

The digital twins of the hardware components: safety cabinets (DÜPERTHAL) and iHEX honeycombs with integrated lab balance and touch monitor (Smart Lab Solutions, Kern & Sohn) were digitally connected. To coordinate processes and workflows, the LES "Labitude" from Smart Lab Solutions now forms the backbone. Via an interface, the LES is extended with the digital inventory monitoring management of DÜPERTHAL connect.

THE RESULT? A NEW WORKFLOW!

A workflow in Labitude requires the use of a specific chemical

The chemical is selected in DÜPERTHAL connect, the storage location displayed and checked out for use

The required safety data sheets, as well as the current inventory quantity, are provided.

Start of the work process in which the chemical is used

For weighing the chemical, the integrated scale is tared with an empty sample container & the desired amount is withdrawn

By pressing the button, the weighed value is recorded.

After confirmation of the weighing result, it is automatically transmitted to DÜPERTHAL connect

An overview table shows all weighings performed by the user

The remaining chemical is checked back in at the storage location with DÜPERTHAL connect via QR code

The weighing value is automatically deducted from the previous inventory

The inventory of each chemical is recorded almost in real time and consumption is automatically documented

Result

Expanded automated documentation of chemical consumption and inventory tracking in near real time

Support for occupational safety by providing all necessary documents

Manual documentation of batch numbers is no longer necessary and saves time

Long searches for containers are eliminated
