Safe Solvent Handling in HPLC-analytic

DÜPERTHAL connect Monitoring in use at the IUTA – Institute for Energy and Environmental Technology

Initial situation

In IUTA's everyday research activities, highly precise HPLC systems are used that are operated daily with various solvents. These must be properly disposed of after analysis without interrupting the work process or incurring safety risks. Previously, there was a risk that critical conditions such as overfilled collection containers or exhaust air malfunctions were only detected later – with potential consequences for safety and the smooth running of operations.

Challenge

In analytical laboratories, uninterrupted operation is essential. Improper or delayed disposal of solvent waste can lead to operational interruptions, incorrect measurements, or even safety incidents. For the IUTA this meant: a solution was needed that both optimizes safety and ensures the smooth operation of the HPLC Service Station – while simultaneously complying with all regulatory requirements.

Our solution

To realign the disposal process, IUTA decided to use a DÜPERTHAL DISPOSAL cabinet in combination with the DÜPERTHAL connect monitoring software.

Equipment at a glance:

  • Level sensor for the automatic detection of critical fill levels
  • Exhaust air sensor to monitor the functionality of the extraction system
  • Door sensor to control access to the cabinet
  • Intelligent alerts in case of threshold exceedances
  • Central real-time monitoring via the DÜPERTHAL connect dashboard

This combination enables faults or safety-critical conditions to be detected and remedied at an early stage – before failures or hazards occur.

The result

Thanks to the introduction of the DISPOSAL cabinet with digital monitoring, IUTA was able to maximize the uptime of the HPLC Service Station and effectively reduce safety-related risks. The sensor system operates around the clock and provides actionable information about condition and usage at any time. The integration into the digital infrastructure via DÜPERTHAL connect ensures that necessary measures can be initiated in a timely manner – automatically and traceably.
